More about The Damhuis Restaurant
The Damhuis Beach Restaurant is a local restaurant situated in the coastal town of Melkbosstrand in the Western Cape. We have been in the area for many years, and throughout this time our restaurant has become one of the prime dining spots in Melkbosstrand.
The Damhuis was one of the first structures built in Melkbosstrand, dating back to around 1785. It was originally built as an outbuilding on a farmstead named De Melkbosch, and the building was used as a shed where fish were cleaned, salted and dried. The building takes its name from the dam that is located in front of it, and this same dam can still be found in front of the Damhuis today! The Damhuis restaurant building is full of character and was built using large stones and whale bones, plastered together with a mixture of cow manure, straw and sand. Some of the walls of the Damhuis are left unplastered, so guests can see the whale bones and enjoy the rich history of the building.
The Damhuis Beach Restaurant is not only famous for its intriguing history, but also for the delicious dishes we prepare. This restaurant uses only the best quality, freshest ingredients for its dishes, and each and every dish is made to order, ensuring our guests receive a perfectly prepared meal. The kitchen is run by chef Stefan Meintjies, who manages 11 professional chefs, and together they produce some of the most pleasing traditional South African dishes.
We serve an impressive variety of South African dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner. You will get an extended range of options to choose from, including delicious starters, vegetarian dishes, meat dishes, poultry dishes, seafood dishes and delectable desserts. Our collection of fine wines will complement all our dishes, and because we are a family restaurant, we have a child friendly menu.
Come to The Damhuis and see what all the fuss is about.
